Losers

The Dallas Morning News
The newspaper lost its best reporter to the Texas Tribune. Speaking of which, where’s our finder’s fee, Evan Smith? -345

Dallas Schoolchildren
DISD Superintendent Michael Hinojosa wanted to give voters the chance to further financially support several innovative education initiatives by considering a 13-cent tax increase this November. But a minority of trustees managed to block the measure from being placed on the ballot. -100 million

Dallas Taxpayers
The proposal under consideration to bail out the city’s failing police and fire pension fund is painful. The city could be on the hook for as much as an additional $1 billion over the next 10 years to keep the fund solvent. -250 million

Klyde Warren Park
There are a bunch of great ideas in the proposed expansion to everybody’s favorite downtown green space, but the idea of putting a parking garage smack on an additional deck between St. Paul and Akard streets spoils the whole thing. Not to mention that the Park Board made it plain that they don’t expect to be able to contribute the $40 million that the park’s foundation wants. -5

Your Arteries
You can look at the new, bizarre batch of fried concoctions coming to the State Fair of Texas this year and pretend you can resist the desire to jam each and every one into your mouth (except for the fried Jello, that’s just gross). But you’re not fooling anyone. -160/100
